You can get 1 terabyte external USB hard drive for under 100 bugs and 2terabyte for not more than that. So it is important to have a backup because it really does not cost that much. But besides that you can also recover from another type of failure, if someone steals your Mac book or if there is a fire, flood something like that and some way your Mac gets destroyed then if you have a backup then you have better chance to recover and put all of the data into a new computer.Now some people think I don't have anything important in my computer so I don't need to backup, well that rarely is the case, I mean ever if you have just few photos or some simple documents on there it could be very difficult to recover from hard drive failures.
